Happy October!
In honor of Halloween being this month, I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane and look back at some of my travel “horror” stories.
No matter how versed you are in the world of travel, things are bound to go wrong. And that’s okay. It’s how you handled it that determines what type of traveler you are. Will you let it ruin that vacation you’ve been planning for 3 months? Or will you let it be a fun story to tell when you get back home.
Here are just six instances of mine when things didn’t go quite as planned.
1. MY UBER LEAVING ME ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD
Yup. This happened. He was frustrated because he only knew one way to get to my destination, and that way was unavailable.

2. MY TIRE BLOWING UP NOT EVEN HALFWAY INTO A ROAD TRIP
I learned a valuable lesson that day: always check your tires before going for a long road trip.

3. HAVING A BAD AIRBNB
Sometimes I love Airbnb. Sometimes the Airbnb I choose is not as close to city centers as I thought, and I have to listen to a crying baby all night.

4. HITTING A TREE WITH A RENTAL CAR
I felt really bad for the car…and the tree. But in my defense, it was pitch black in the middle of the woods.

5. KNOCKING OVER A MAILBOX
I’m starting to think driving is just not my forte. My friend and I made it all the way to Chicago from Nebraska, and all the way back before I knocked over her family’s mailbox right before dropping her off.

6. GETTING MY PHONE STOLEN
In all honesty, I think I was feeling cocky from all my travels and wasn’t watching my personal items as much as I should have.

Well, there you have it! Six instances where traveling went wrong for me. However, I never let those experiences discourage me from traveling, in fact, I feel more like a traveler having interesting stories to share.

What a fun idea to look back at “travel horrors” at this time of year. I know we could come up with stories about road trip failures and Airbnb misses. But luckily we don’t have any stories about hitting trees. Sadly I do have one about a stolen phone.
i think stolen phones are pretty common 🙁
Great time for horror stories!. Your travel “horror” stories are thrilling. I wouldn’t like to be left by uber in a place that I don’t know or lost my phone. I would panic probably. I had bed bugs when I decided on cheap Airbnb once.
I guess that every traveller has some not so good stories to tell. Somehow they are the yang to all the ying you mostly experience. Funny enough, I have similar stories to tell – left stranded in Malaysia, lost a tyre in Belize – thank Got nobody ever stole my phone – that would be a major catastrophy. However, most of the time, we have pleasant stories to tell, right?!
the good stories definitely out weigh these bad ones!
Sadly because covid I cant do my hobby 😦
I know how that feels 🙁
