2020 Year in Review

I don’t think this will come as a shock when I say 2020 was one of the hardest years, not only for me, but for a lot of people as well.

It was a year I couldn’t live out my travel plans. A year I was forced to be home alone for most of the time. A year I couldn’t grow my blog. And a year I didn’t get to see my friends as much.

My goals for the year were pretty lofty – I wanted to travel to at least 3 new states AND 3 new countries. I also hoped to write 20 blogs in 12 months.

When the pandemic was in full swing and I couldn’t travel, I put off my blog… for a good 4 months! I just didn’t have the motivation to write. When I finally did get around to writing again, it was because I had recently traveled, and although the experience was anxiety inducing and some attractions were closed, I was still grateful for adventure.

I didn’t realize how much I truly missed getting out, seeing new places and taking a butt load of pictures.

Despite it all, 2020 showed me I still have so much to be thankful for: my health and a good job for starters. Not to mention, my blog didn’t too bad either.

I wrote 10 blog posts
I gained 31 WordPress followers
I gained about 60 Pinterest followers
Most commented blog was 11 Creative Travel DIY’s You Can Do @ Home
Most “liked” blog was Welcome to Iceland
Most viewed blog was How to Have a Girl’s Weekend in Sioux Falls, SD

What about 2021?

In the new year I hope to keep writing things that bring me joy. I hope to continue going on road trips, seeing new states and making memories along the way.

The year was hard, but that only makes me look to the future with more excitement.

2020 was a hard year for me too. I had a milestone birthday and was looking forward to a special trip to celebrate. I’m hoping this year will be better and that travel will open up soon.

Although we are in this together, it’s interesting – and sometimes even inspiring or comforting – to read how others cope with this situation. For me, 2020 was a steady rollercoaster – and at the beginning of 2021, the coaster – as well as my spirits – are very low. Although I still have my day job, I feel like living in bondage, just waiting to be freed at last.

Beautiful photos! I understand how you feel, and I’m sure loads of us do. I had plans to travel all around Africa. I had ticked off only 2 countries when the world shut down, and I actually was stuck in Africa in a hard lockdown for a couple months alone. So believe me, I know how it feels to do this alone, but you made it and so did I! Hoping for a better year for us all!!

It was such a tough year. I think with those of us who love to explore and have this as our main luxury in life, it’s certainly took its toll. I’m hopeful for some more positivity in 2021 but I am also mentally preparing myself for the possibility that travel may still not happen for me (i’m in the U.K, which is pretty bad at the moment). One positive that may come from that is more time to save for my next trips and when they come around possibly extend, see more or do more.

Needless to say, 2020 was a weird year for all of us! We had a lot of travel plans and we had to cancel some of them. Lets just hope 2021 gets better for all!

I can relate with a lot of what you felt about 2000 – it was indeed hard on everyone in many ways and so many across the world shared the same angst. Glad to read that despite the challenges of an unpredictable and unprecedented year, there were some positives for you like a fulfilling job. I look forward to reading more about your adventures in 2021.
