My Favorite Travel Apps

If you’re like me, travel and the possibility of travel is always on your mind.

I think about upcoming trips, my ultimate dream vacations, hotels I would love to stay in, what food I can get in other cities and sometimes I even look up airline tickets in my free time. I am OBSESSED.

But I’m also a fan of seeing other people travel and getting to see places that I’ve either already been to or haven’t gotten the chance to visit yet. I love hearing what they have to say about the area and about their trip in general.

Usually I hear people talk about what changes that could make for next time to make their excursion just that much better. Well, I’m here to help with that! My five favorite travel apps will give you a sense of adventure and a better understanding of what it means to travel.

1. Airbnb

You’ve probably heard of this site before and if you haven’t, no worries. Airbnb is an online marketplace where people can rent or lease short-term lodging. People put cottages, apartment lofts, their vacation homes and even just rooms inside their house for other people to stay in. You can find unique places to stay on your travels (either international or local), usually for way cheaper than regular hotels! The app is completely safe to use (read my first Airbnb review here) and is compatible for iOS, Apple Watch and Android.

2. Currency (XE)

This mobile app is great for traveling abroad! It provides you with live exchange rates and charts to help you convert any of the 180+ currencies around the world. This app is compatible for iOS and Android.

3. Duolingo

Here is another favorite of mine when it comes to traveling international. Although, this could also be used in some parts of the Unites States. This app provides free language education in about 30 languages through games and quizzes. Available through iOS or Android.

4. GroupMe

When I studied abroad in Italy, my group used this app as our main form of communication. GroupMe allows users to send group messages without the limits or fees. It uses Wi-Fi rather than cellular data and is therefore a must when entering a different country (if you want to keep in touch with people). Get this on iOS, Windows or Android.

5. Quik

My final favorite is a product of GoPro. However, you don’t need a GoPro to use this app. Any footage (photo/video) can be edited with this tool. Applications include text, filters, slow motion, speed effects and audio files. You can download on your desktop or from your smartphone (iOS & Android).
