A Weekend in Colorado Springs

This year for spring break I took my sister and headed to Colorado Springs. Neither of us had ever been there or even in Colorado before. We decided to just do a weekend trip so I could get back to work and she could get back to school sooner. Nevertheless, we still had a blast and I want to share with you the places we went during our stay and what we recommend.

Thursday:

Left Thursday afternoon, drove the 8 hours and got there around 1 a.m. We stayed in an AirBnb about 10-15 minutes from town. Check the AirBnb we stayed at here:

Friday:

Seven Falls

We woke up around 9 a.m. and headed to Broadmoor Seven Falls. Once arrived, we had to park in their free parking lot and then a van took us to the gate entrance. From here we hiked about 20 minutes up an easy hill. When you get the Falls you can choose between two lookout vantages to see the cascading water. The first choice has the option of an elevator or a very tall, very steep set of stairs. We took the stairs up and the elevator down. The second lookout only has the tall, steep stairs so bring your walking shoes. We didn’t know if we were out of breath from the view or the climbing. You will then walk down the hill and wait for the van to take you back to your car.

**We went during a non-peak time of the year so our tickets were cheaper than usual.

**A restaurant is seated next to the bottom of the falls.

Garden of the Gods

Next we drove to the Garden of the Gods where we were met with spectacular red-sandstone formations and trails. I would say we hiked for about two hours, stopping and taking pictures every once in a while. You can also drive around the park and see some formations further outside of the park. We did this and I would highly recommend it because they have a pretty cool balanced rock on this road.

**This park is free.

The Skirted Heifer

For dinner we went downtown and chose a small restaurant right on the main street. The Skirted Heifer has a choose-your-own toppings/buns/burgers type of menu but the fun thing they do is putting a ring of melted cheese around your burger.

**Guy Fieri visited here.

Saturday:

Loyal Coffee House

For our morning breakfast we drove back into downtown because we loved the area. We found this coffee house that had a cute modern feel to it. I got some eggs and a chi latte and Alyssa got a vanilla latte. Everything was really simple, cute and Instagram-able.

Cottonwood Hot Springs Inn & Spa

For Saturday’s day fun we decided try out a hot springs. The closest one that was open during this time of year was about a two hour drive away. The drive was long but I really think it was worth it. Driving mostly uphill, we got to experience more of beautiful Colorado, see some cute towns, and get out of our comfort zone. The hot springs featured three pools of warm water and one regular swimming pool. We loved having a relaxing day and even got in the sauna.

**The springs cost $20 each.

The Rabbit Hole

Since it was St. Patty’s Day, when we got back to our AirBnb we showered and got ready to go out. We parked downtown and walked a few blocks until we found something we liked. This place was neat because it took us underground – it was like stepping into a different world.

**Really good salmon meal here.

**Busy during the night.

Sunday:

Drove back to Nebraska!
